This is a pattern of guitar music where the sound frequency is actually an octave below than the true - in this case middle C- note frequncy. However When playing the guitar and you see middle C on the music we play it at the 5th string on the 3rd fret. Note: To hear the actual frequency sound of Middle C as indicated in standard notation when playing it on the guitar you will need to play it at the second string (B) on Fret 1. A " Drop D" set up is the lowest tone possible. which will fall withing the Bass clef in written music- the standard 6 string guitar would not be able to play that low a range. In a standard size piano C4 represents middle C and C3 then would be the C note located one full octave below middle C. When refering the the Scientific Pitch Notation using the the Capital letter "C" with a number next to it - like C3, it could refer to location of the note C in Hertz frequency. The capo designation - based only on my own experience with my guitar music - is always indicated by using a Roman Numeral like "IV" for example which means to use it on the fourth fret of the fret board. This is a pattern of guitar music where the sound for any note is actually an octave below than the true - in this case middle C- note frequncy. The higher number represents a higher pitch. Using the Standard Concert Pitch Middle "C" which is indicated as C4, has a frequency of 261.63 hertz and C3 will be 130.81 hertz. In a standard size piano C4 represents middle C and C3 then would be the C note located one full octave below middle C.- which will fall withing the Bass clef in written music.
